*080* Rick Tubbax And The Taxi's - Fiction

'Fiction' is the B-side of 'Breaking Up' which is already posted here.

Beside this UK EDGE release there is a different France 'Breaking Up' release, which comes with 'White Girls' on the B-side (on Disques Vogue 1980).

Read some stuff about the Rick Tubbax and his group here in the Belgium Pop & Rock Archiv.

*079* Humans - Play EP

Here we have the Humans Play EP, released in 1980. I want to describe the sound as new wave influenced (except Pipeline - it's the well known surf track). For me not very good but not really bad too ;) - just an interesting record.
Comes in a nice gatefold cover.

A-Side: 'I Live In The City' + 'Play'
B-Side: 'Tracy + Pipeline'

There is an official myspace site where you can check some live songs ('New York' I really like!).

*078* Nightshift - Jet Set / Bad Dreams

'Jet Set' / 'Bad Dreams' is the second single released one year later in 1979. Not bad I think. A-side is my fav because it has a more PowerPop style. (The weird nightmare voice in 'Bad Dreams' can not help).

*077* Nightshift - Love Is Blind / She Makes Me Love Her

Let's take a look at two Nightshift releases on Zoom records. 'Love Is Blind' / 'She Makes Me Love Her' is their first single released in 1978. Good PowerPop tunes on the B-side.

*076* Little Bo Bitch - Lorraine

Regarding the last post Little Bo Bitch's 'Lorraine' is a much more better B-side ! In my opinion even better than the A-side 'Take It Easy'. Enjoy!

*075* Little Bo Bitch - I'm Confused

For me 'I'm Confused' is a weak B-side for Little Bo Bitch's greatest hit 'It's Only Love' ! But I post it anyway to enable you to make a judgement.

*074* Robert Johnson - Kerri / Tell Me About It, Slim!

Two more great Robert Johnson tunes : 'Kerri' / 'Tell Me About It, Slim!'

Enjoy ! And check out the 'Close Personal Friend' LP !!

*073* Robert Johnson - The Memphis Demos

We start today with a real PowerPop masterpiece - the 'The Memphis Demos' 7inch by Robert Johnson. The 7inch was printed as a promo for the 'The Memphis Demos' 8 track LP only.

A-side : 'I'll be Waiting'
B-side : 'Guide My Energy'

*072* Max Splodge - Bicycle Seat (Dub Version)

Ever heard the dub version of Max Splodge's 'Bicycle Seat' ?!
Sounds not much different form the A-side ;) !

The more I hear both tracks the more I love it. It really stucks in my head - today, yesterday and tomorrow!

*071* Peter And The Test Tube Babies - Trapper Ain't Got A Bird

A typical untypical PTTTB song is 'Trapper Ain't Got A Bird' on the B-side of the very famous A-side: 'Jinx'. Anyway I like it and it matches the sound of the next post ...

*070* Peter And The Test Tube Babies - No Invitation + Smash & Grab

'No Invitation + Smash & Grab' are the tracks on the B-side of 'Zombie Creeping Flesh', released in 1983.

*069* The Sect - Never Go

A-side 'Free England' of this 7inch was already uploaded here and there and the second link tells me there is a 12inch EP release (1990 - 4 years later than this 7inch) containing the same song.

But here you have the B-side 'Never Go' !!!

(P.S.: uk82 shows us the discography)

*068* The Enemy - Fallen Hero' / Tomorrow's Warning / Prisoner Of War

Did not found an upload for 'Tomorrow's Warning' ... so here we have The Enemy's second single 'Fallen Hero' backed with 'Tomorrow's Warning' + 'Prisoner Of War'.

'Prisoner Of War' ia my favorite Enemy track (beside 'Black Days') is also released on their album Gateway To Hell. Check it here. Great stuff!

*067* Attak - Hell / No Escape

Two more songs from Attak's first release: 'Hell + No Escape'. You can listen to the A-side of 'Today's Generation' EP here.

*066* Attak - Future Dreams

'Future Dreams' is the B-side of 'Murder In The Subway' from Attak's second 7inch.

Attak are fantastic ! I always loved that they sound like Blitz !
My favorite Attak song was and still is 'Young and Proud' from the album 'Zombies', which can be dowloaded here.

*065* Anti Pasti - Four Sore Points EP

Here we have the Four Sore Points EP with my favorite Anti Pasti number: 'No Government' !!! Great powerful guitars with snotty vocals!

A-Side: 'Few Years Too Late + Something New'
B-Side: 'No Government + 1980'

*064* Anti Pasti - Six Guns /Now's The Time + Call The Army I'm Alive

Let's process with two Anti Pasti 7inches.

A-Side: 'Six Guns'
B-Side: 'Now's The Time + Call The Army I'm Alive'

*063* Blitzkrieg - Lest We Forget EP

Time to start with some '82 Brit Punk !!!

Blitzkrieg's 'Lest We Forget' EP is fucking great !!!
I love this stuff since I came into touch with their songs the first time - it was in the last millennium when I did hold a tape copy of the 'A Country Fit for Heroes' compilation in my hands.

'Lest We Forget + Warfares Heroes'
'The Abuse Of Power + Destruction'

For the lyrics take a look at that site: www.uk82.com.

Blitzkrieg reformed some years ago and are still playing. I saw them last year here in Berlin and now have to wait exactly 5 weeks for the next gig ... again here in Berlin :) ... !!

PS : ... exactly 6 weeks are over now ... take a look at my video shots : (1), (2), (3), (4), (5)

*062* Cash Pussies - Cash Flow

... Female vocals again ... here we have 'Cash Flow' by Cash Pussies, sung by Diana Rich.

Ok, no question, '99% Is Shit' is the better one (for me) because it has a much more punky tune. There are several uploads for this song on Youtube, just try this one.

www.punk77.co.uk gives you very interesting band story details ... check it !

*061* Manufactured Romance - Room To Breathe

Nice B-side 'Room To Breathe' from female fronted Manufactured Romance. My M.R. favorite is the A-side with 'Time Of My Life', which is already uploaded here on Youtube.

Comes in 4(?) different pic sleeves (blue, green, red, orange logo colors)

*060* Athletico Spizz 80 - No Room / Spock's Missing

I really like the A-side. I think it was on Youtube the first time I heard it. Or saw it ! Because it was I live performance ... let's take a look ... yes here we have it : live @ The Scala London April 2010.

'No Room' / 'Spock's Missing'.

*059* Buzzards - Disco Romeos

They shortened their name to Buzzards but this doesn't mean they changed their style ! B-side of their fourth 7inch 'We Make a Noise' : 'Disco Romeos'.

*058* Leyton Buzzards - Villain / Youthanasia

First Leyton Buzzards single. I guess you know, the A-Side is '19 & Mad'.
Here you have the two B-side tracks: 'Villain' and 'Youthanasia'.

*057* The Daleks - OK! EP

My favorite is 'Rejected' (maybe you know it from the V/A 'England Belongs To Me Vol.4' compilation). Great punk stuff.

A-side : 'This Life'
B-side (1) : 'Rejected'
B-side (2) : 'Man Of The World'

Daleks blog posts : here (tells you the story about the additional record sticker) and there.

('Rejected' is also posted here @ Youtube.)

*056* The Fast - Boys Will Be Boys / Pow Wow Bash Crash

For me 'The Kids Just Wanna Dance' (B-side of 'It's Like Love') will be my favorite killer track by The Fast for all the time. Just take a look at this clip and you will know what I mean !!! (ok, maybe if you watch the clip for the first time you will think they don't be serious and maybe you have to smirk for a while ;) But! The Fast is not joking! The clip is serious, the band is serious, it's the total seriousness! Beliefe me!)

Soo... But in this post we don't take a look at their first single, here is their second single which came into the world two months later on the CBS label 'Boys Will Be Boys' backed with 'Pow Wow Bash Crash', released in March 1976.

Great live footage of the A-Side : here @ Youtube.
Check The Fast homepage and dontaskmeidontknow.blogspot.com.

*055* Jimmy Edwards & The Profile - Toys / Hard Heart

This is the third Jimmy Edwards single, released in 1980:

A-Side : 'Toys'
B- Side : 'Hard Heart'

Brilliant ! Nothing left to say, but :
If you don't like this, leave this blog right now !!! ;-)

(Extra camera shot upload of the back side because I did not find it elsewhere)

*054* Jimmy Edwards & The Profile - Twentieth Century Time / Seven Hail Marys

Second single by Jimmy Edwards & The Profile, released in 1979: 'Twentieth Century Time' / 'Seven Hail Marys'.
My fav is the B-Side, reminds me a bit of Jimmy Edwards' first hit: 'Nora's Diary'.

If you are interested, read this interview with Jimmy Edwards.

*053* The Questions - Some Other Guy / Rock'n'Roll Ain't Dead

This is the first The Questions single. To tell the truth, together with their (second) killer single 'Can't Get Over You' / 'Answers' this is the only stuff you have to know from the scottish Questions :

A-Side : 'Some Other Guy'
B-Side : 'Rock 'n' Roll Ain't Dead'

'Rock 'n' Roll Ain't Dead' is a cool rocking (yeah! it has to!) PowerPop number ! In contrast 'Some Other Guy' sounds like a boring ballade.

Later releases (here and there) follow more a Pop(?) music style and are pretty weak I mean.

*052* The Questions - Answers

Questions and answers, honesty, lies. Yes, no, you can't, but you can and you know why ...
- Stop, this was another band ! (In the next but one post we will come the Jimmy Edwards who was working together with that band for a short time ...)

We start here with the second single of The Questions (I always thought it is their first one. Certainly because this is my favorite Questions release). Next post we will take a look at their first 7inch which for sure is a great one, too ...

'Answers' is the fantastic B-side to a actually more fantastic A-Side. This is totally punky PowerPop !!! As I love it !!

(Btw I remember I fell in love with 'Can't Get Over You' the first time I heard it on the Powerpoppers Vol.1 compilation.)

*051* The Out - Linda's Just a Statue

'Who Is Innocent?' backed with 'Linda's Just a Statue' was released in 1979 on both, the Virgin and the Rabid label. B-side is more punkier tune.
But I don't want to withhold the great A-side from you:
'Who Is Innocent?' @ Youtube.

*050* Mutants - Schoolteacher / Lady / Hard Time

Mutants' second 7inch : 'Schoolteacher' / 'Hard Time' comes with a third track on the B-side. www.45cat.com says 5000 are pressed on red and another 5000 are pressed on black vinyl.
Here you have it on red :

'Hard Time'
'Schoolteacher'
'Lady'

www.punk77.co.uk tells you the band story.

Check Youtube here for a better audio quality version of 'Hard Time'.
(Btw. you can download the fantastic 'Live To Ride' compilation containing 'Hard Time' here : punknotprofit.blogspot.com)

*049* Mutants - Back Yard Boys

'Back Yard Boys' is the B-side of a killer A-side(!!!), called 'Boss Man' which you find here.

You can read a lot about the Mutants on www.punk77.co.uk.

*048* Dummies - She's the Only Woman

Another great Cheapskate release was and still is the Dummies 7inch "When The Lights Are Out" / "She's the Only Woman" (Cheapskate Records - FWL 001, UK 1979). This one never came with a picture sleeve (but the '1980 release on Pye Records).

The A-Side you will find everywhere, but here is the B-side.

(Ok, now I found the B-Side also here denoted by Slade+Dummies band member 'Jim Lea')

*047* Dummies - When I'm Dancing I Ain't Fightin'

The Dummies (= Jim Lea from Slade + Frank Lea) with a great live version of "When I'm Dancing I Ain't Fightin'". Some interesting infos about the Dummies and their connection to Slade you find here.

My B-Side "When I'm Dancing I Ain't Fightin'" upload of this Cheapskate (Cheapskate 14) release you find here.
The A-Side is more a pop tune (but what a catchy one!) and was already uploaded on Youtube.

*046* Lemming - Rock 'n' Roll Love

... started in Belgium we finish our short trip with the Dutch glam rockers Lemming.

'Rock 'n' Roll Love' is a catchy rocking glam number that you have to remember for the next time you will run across the hottest chick on the dance floor. Nothing can go wrong and you will break her heart if you go to her, start to clap with your hands and stomp with your feet while singing the refrain:
Hello! Hello!
Rock 'n' Roll Love, Rock 'n' Roll Love, Rock 'n' Roll Love
Want you dance with me ? - You-ou-ou-ou !!

*045* Carlsberg - Silly Lilly That's not my cup of tea.

... We stay in the same area of Europe, but this time we move ten meters further to the Netherlands. Fu***** great rocking tune : 'Silly Lilly' !!!

The A-side 'All The President's Men' has another sound, it's not my cup of tea. But check the Youtube upload here.

You can download the mp3s on girlsfromtahiti.blogspot.com.

*044* Bucks Danny - Stick To You / Head first

... Let's stay in Belgium and see what happens if a member of legendary Hubble Bubble does his own thing !

'Stick To You' is a nice tune but what the hell ?! - how fantastic is the B-Side ?!? Check 'Head First' and you will believe me ...

Download the second single 'Be my girl' here : shortsharpkickintheteeth.blogspot.com.

*043* The Kids - Giving It All Away / It's Only Natural

Let's go to Belgium. Here we have The Kids with a later release (Mercury records 6021 339) : 'It's Only Natural''Giving It All Away'.
Two great numbers ! Especially 'It's Only Natural' stucks in my head since the first day I heard that track!

(It's an older footage from the last year when the Kids played here in Berlin. I already posted both tracks in my other Youtube profile briefly before the gig to made a gig announcement on Facebook :-) (being sure they never would play these songs ;-) ). Btw if you are interested, check my gig footages here and there.)

*042* Disco Students - I Met My Girlfriend At A Friars Gig

This is a new release (2009) by the Disco Students. My fav is the A-side:  'I Met My Girlfriend At A Friars Gig' but both tracks are great tunes !

Buy the record here : www.discostudents.com !

I just let Lastfm tell some words : The Disco Students were a British punk/post-punk band formed in Aylesbury, England during the winter of 1978. The original line up was Simon Cheetham, Simon Clark, Richard Coles and Graham Hocking. The band released their first single on Yeah!Yeah!Yeah! Records in 1979 - 'South Africa House' / 'Kafkaesque'. The second release was an EP - ‘A Boy With A Penchant For Open Neck Shirts’ by this time Karl Perkins had replaced Clark.

*041* Blast Furnace And The Heatwaves - Blue Wave EP

Hear we have Blast Furnace And The Heatwaves with some rhythm 'n' blues tunes ...

A-Side : 'Trust Me' + 'Me And The Devil'
B-Side : 'Can't Stop The Boy' + 'Crosscut Saw'

Jan 22, 2012

*040* V/A 'Rock & Dole' EP - Hot Banana / Decade Waltz

'Rock & Dole' - What a cool title for a various artists 7inch EP ! A record with such a title can not be bad ! You must have it !!!
- I thought when I saw this record offered for 2 pounds. But only 2 pounds ? So what was the crux of matter ? - Unfortunately I realized the B-side was heavily scratched. But this could not keep me from buying the record ! Check the nice wavy A-side tunes :

Hot Banana - Love On A Sadderday
Decade Waltz - Marching Men

The two songs on the B-Side are from Obnoxious Tartus and Task Force and have a more 82-BritPunk style. But the record is so fucked up that I can not play both songs continuously from beginning to end.
(Just saw that Rave Up Records offers a Task Force 4 track EP.)

The J.G.P. Title Logo

Today I finished the title logo.

Time to mention that the punk figure therein is a modification of a drawing by Sean Äaberg.

I found it some years ago in the word wide web, I guess it was here: eatenbyducks.blogspot.com.

*039* Art Objects - Showing Off To Impress The Girls "Our Silver Sister

'Showing Off To Impress The Girls' is a nice midtempo tune released in 1980. Call it post-punk, indie or new-wave - anyway I like that song. The B-side is a live number, called 'Our Silver Sister', but not interesting enough to post it here ;).

(Never heard the first single. So if you have some samples for me, let me know ...)

*038* The Brakes - The Way I See It / Never Making Love

The Brakes' second single : 'The Way I See It' backed with 'Never Making Love'. The A-side is a great tune but the B-side is more than this !!! - Play it ! Enjoy it ! Love it !

*037* The Brakes - Doing Life

'Doing Life' is the B-Side of the first Brakes single. Ok, 'Blame It On The Brakes' is such a great hit, no B-side can catch it. But 'Doing Life' is more than just a 'good' B-side, it is an outstanding song that only could have been written by someone like the Brakes !

*036* Noise Toys - Pocket Money

'Pocket Money' is the B-side of Noise Toys' split single with Arthur 2 Stroke. For me the Noise Toys definitely won the race. What do you mean ?

*035* The Friendly Hopefuls - The Punks Of '76 Medley (Disco Dub Mix)

'Cover Songs' Part #6 :

Ok we finish our cover song series with some punk rock covers put together (partly) in one entire song ! by The Friendly Hopefuls. The record itself is called 'Tribute to the Punks of '76' and was released in 1981. On it we find 'The Punks Of '76 Medley' which exists in two versions : the more punky version at the A-side and the disco dub version at the B-side.

The first time a heard this gem (the 'punky' version) I was totally blown away. I remember it was back in '2001 when a friend of mine gave me the complete 'Spunkstains' compilation series he directly ordered from the guy who created and published this series. The 'The Punks Of '76 Medley' was on part X? as a secret track. But how cool is that tune ? The Friendly Hopefuls did a great job I think !

Here I share the 'Disco Dub Mix' version (I never had heard till I bought this record) because the A-Side you already find at several places on Youtube.

So but what do we actually find in this medley ? Here the list of cover songs within 'The Punks Of '76 Medley' :

  • Buzzcocks - Boredom
  • Eater - Outside View
  • The Damend - New Rose
  • The Jam - In The City
  • The Clash - Career Opportunities
  • Sex Pistols - Liar
And who actually was behind the band ? - Dave Goodman produced the single and played the bass, too - all the other band members are listed here.

*034* Staa Marx - Crazy Weekend / Pleasent Valley Sunday

'Cover Songs' Part #5 : Pleasent Valley Sunday

Interesting record, good A-side, B-side is a cover version of a The Monkees hit ... so you have to decide who did it better ...

A-Side : 'Crazy Weekend'
B-Side : 'Pleasent Valley Sunday'

Check out the Staa Marx 2008 reunion gig here.
