*124* Cult Maniax - The Amazing Adventures Of Johnny The Duck and The Bath Time Blues

Here we have the 12inch version of Cult Maiax' The Amazing Adventures Of Johnny The Duck and The Bath Time Blues release :

'The Amazing Adventures Of Johnny The Duck...'
'Blue Baby'
'Village Ritual'
'Maniax'

*123* Cult Maniax - Full Of Spunk ! EP

This is the fourth 7inch release (1984 on Xcentric Noise) which followed up their LP.

'Cool Cats Dancing'
'No More Beach Boys'
'Psycho Rocker'

Lyrics to 'No More Beach Boys' at uk82.com.

*122* Cult Maniax - Blitz / Lucy Looe

I think Cult Maniax have something other bands don't have, something that makes them distinctive - For sure it is not only the singers voice and the dusty sound that find in many of their songs.

So let's take a look at their work in this and in the two following posts ...

Here we have their second 7inch, released 1982 on the Elephant Rock label :

A-side: 'Blitz'
B-side: 'Lucy Looe'

*121* Blitzkrieg Boys - S/T EP

The first time I heard about this bunch of mother fuckers was back in '2000 when I was reading my favorite mail order and decided to give the Back From Nowhere CD a try. When I was listen to this CD I was blown away !!! Such coool Ramones-like tunes I never heard before !! And when I read the unbelievable crazy German tour story in the booklet I was blown away again ;) !!!

This EP was released 1989 on the German label Teenage Rebel Records.

Here you have it:

'Intro + It's Not My Place'
'Friends'
'Do You Remember?'
'War Games'
'Oh No'
'The Blitzkrieg Boys'

Enjoy !!!

Check out the Blitzkrieg Boys homepage. There you find the whole detailed Blitzkrieg Boys story, mp3s, gigs list, etc. ... apropos gigs list : I had the great pleasure to see The Blitzkrieg Boys gigs here in Berlin (Germany) back in 2007 and 2008.
I just realized on their homepage they announced a new split release with a band called Fanta.

(You can download mp3s for this EP from the Down Underground blog.)

*120* Red London - The Day They Tore The Old School Down / Searching

'The Day They Tore The Old School Down' / 'Searching' are two great melodic rockin' tunes, released in 1989 on the France Label Negative Records.
Especially the A-side is awesome ! (Like a lot of the stuff they released over two decades started with This Is England to the fantastic Unce Up A Generation album.)

*119* Dead Mans Shadow - Another Year / One Mans Crusade Pilgers Theme

'Another Year' b/w 'One Mans Crusade Pilgers Theme' released in 1983 is Dead Man's Shadows' second last single (of eight 7inches). Not so powerful like the earlier stuff but ok. Over two years they changed their style from '77 Punk (Neighbors) to raw UK82 Punk (Bomb Scare) to more Post Punk tunes (see discography here).

*118* Rubella Ballet - The Ballet Dance EP

Today let's take a look at the 80s ...

We want to start with The Ballet Dance EP of the British female fronted Anarcho-punk band Rubella Ballet, released in 1982.
'The Ballet Dance' and 'Unemployed' I really like and both are not ballet dance but real pogo dance numbers I think !

A-Side: 'The Ballet Dance'
B-Side: 'Unemployed + Krak Trak'

Btw I filmed a live performance of 'Unemployed' last year at the Rebellion Festival.

*117* Battered Wives - Daredevil / You Better Be Right

Ok, these songs are already uploaded on Youtube, but damn ! I have to write a Battered Wives post !

When I came across these bunch of Toronto guys for the first time in my life it was the song 'Everybody Loves a Loser' that did never get out of my head !!! I remember these days (and still today ;)) I was jumping around my flat while hearing this song together with my neighbors ;) !
- Ok, but here we have the first (? Uganda Stomp was the second one?) single, which is quite great stuff as well, especially the B-side I like very much :

A-side : 'Daredevil'
B-side : 'You Better Be Right'

A lot of their tracks of their self-titled debut album you will find uploaded at Youtube. Their second LP (as The Wives - Cigarettes) can be downloaded here.
Some interesting infos about the band name and record company changes you can read here.

*116* I.O.U. - No Entry / Hot Blood

A-side 'No Entry' I like very much !! B-side is 'Hot Blood' - a more midtempo Power Pop number.

Discogs describes the music style as "Electronic / Synth-pop". I think it is far away from it ;-) !

One question left : I.O.U. - What does it stand for ?!

*115* The Reps - What You Gonna Do About It? / Back Of My Mind

Quite as good as the A-side of the first single is 'What You Gonna Do About It?' b/w 'Back Of My Mind'. I call it good New Wave Power Pop!
This is the second and final The Reps single. They released an album too ('Bad boy on School' Kingsway music 1983), but I never heard it ... if you have it - let me know ...

*114* The Reps - Rebel / No More Yesterdays

Nice powerful female voiced New Wave - Power Pop tune on the A-side: 'Rebel' ! B-side 'No More Yesterdays' is just ok :(.

Download the mp3s at the fantastic My life's a jigsaw blog.

*113* The Producers - Out Of Love

After the Corvettes we continue hearing tuny songs : The Producers with 'Out Of Love' (Hobo HOS-003, 1979). A-Side 'Radio' is not my cup of tea ! So I do not post it here :)

*112* The Corvettes - Girls Cars Girls Sun Girls Surf Girls Fun Girls / The Beach Is Not Enough

Ok we have February, the weather is shitty and we're looking forward to summer time. Maybe this helps you to bridge the time :

A-side: 'Girls Cars Girls Sun Girls Surf Girls Fun Girls'
B-side: 'The Beach Is Not Enough' !!

I try to remember when and where I heard the A-side for the first time ... it was a track on compilation album many many years ago .... ah I got it ! It was on the 'Mutant Surf Punks' compilation !

*111* The Stoat - Office Girl / Little Jenny

The Stoat's 'Little Jenny' is the B-side for the better known 'Office Girl'.
Released on City Records where the first UK Subs single 'C.I.D' was released, too. Speaking of UK Subs - this is the last post for today because in one hour I have to leave to see the UK Subs gig in Cottbus (Germany) ...

*110* The Quads - There's Never Been A Night / Take It

'There's Never Been A Night' is already posted on Youtube.
Here we have the B-side : 'Take It' of the second single by The Quads. This track has a more rocking influence than the more PowerPopish A-side but is quite as good ! Enjoy !

Third single 'UFO' b/w the instrumental 'Astronauts Journey' as well as an unreleased track 'Feel The Need For More' you find at Youtube, too.

*109* The Quads - There Must Be Thousands / You’ve Gotta Jive

First single by The Quads. Great stuff ! 'There Must Be Thousands' you already find here. As with the the second single the B-side 'You’ve Gotta Jive' has a more rockin style. Play it loud !!!

*108* Studio Sweethearts - I Believe / It Isn't Me

Ok let's come to the reincarnation of my all time '77 Punk Rock Heroes Slaughter And the Dogs. The Studio Sweetheart are Mike Rossi and Zip Bates together with Phil Rowland of Eater Billy Duffy of the Nosebleeds.

'I Believe' is already posted here.
B-side 'It Isn't Me' is great as well and in fact sounds very close the Slaughter And The Dogs stuff ! Just listen to the awesome guitar solo at the end of the song, then you'll know what I mean.

*107* El Seven - Magnifito EP

Second release by El Seven comes with four tracks. 'Blackpool Beach' I like sooo much !!!

'Endless Sea'

*106* El Seven - Radio Tokyo / Turn Out The Light

Fantastic ! Maybe El Seven is the one an only Indie band I like. Especially the A-side 'Radio Tokyo' I like very much. B-side is 'Turn Out The Light'.

Check a footage of 'Radio Tokyo' performed live in 2008.

*105* Attack - Ooa Hela Natten / Kom Fram

I'm not really into the A-side 'Ooa Hela Natten' but the B-side is a nice Glamrockin PowerPop tune: 'Kom Fram' !
Check a live version performed in 2009 (28 years ! after the single release) here.

*104* Q Tips - S.Y.S.L.J.F.M. / The Dance

Like in the last post let's follow up with some kind of music I usually not hear very often.
The first time I heard the Q Tips it was here (the third song) on Youtube. 'S.Y.S.L.J.F.M.' did blow me away so I had to buy the record ! B-side is quite as good : 'The Dance'.

*103* Johnny Warman - 3 Minutes / Jon Glass

This is a later 7inch of Johnny Warman, released 13/11/1981 on the Rocket label (Wikipedia). I like the B-side 'Jon Glass', it is more electronic music than I usually hear (usually I never hear electronic music), but it has a catchy tune and sounds a bit SigueSigueSputnikish (ok, ok maybe it is only the drum computer they have in common). A-side is here.

*102* The Smirks - To You / New Music

This is the fourth and final The Smirks single : 'To You' b/w 'New Music'.

All the other singles you already find at Youtube ('Rosemary'/'Eh Up Eh' 'American Patriot'/'Angry With Myself').

Funny ! Isn't it?

*101* The Smirks - O.K. - U.K. / Streets

I love all The Smirk stuff !!! Call it New Wave or PowerPop - anyway, The Smirks created great catchy tunes on all of their records ! Unfortunately they never released their planned album on Sanctuary Records !

Let's start with the first of four singles : 'O.K. - U.K.' (already uploaded here) back with 'Streets'.

There is a great The Smirks site in the WWW, check and download all the records here :

*100* Spider - Dancing In the Street

WOW ! 100 posts !

Spider's 'Dancing In the Street' is the first of four tracks on the 'Battle Of The Bands' V/A EP, released in 1978 as a double 7inch on our beloved Good Vibrations label.
Maybe this is THE 7inch various artists compilation record of the 20th century !!!

The other tracks are already uploaded to Youtube. These are :

2. "The Cops Are Comin'" by The Outcasts
3. "Parents" by The Idiots
4. "Overcome By Fumes" by Rudi

*099* 2 Timers - Now That I've Lost My Baby / Fast And Furious

Here we have a real PowerPop perl : 'Now That I've Lost My Baby' back with 'Fast And Furious' by the 2 Timers released in 1978. Great stuff !

*098* Passage - New Love Songs EP

Some new wave stuff from 1978:
'Love Song + The Competition'
'Slit Machine + New Kind Of Love'

Get a vinyl rip @ mangrovedeltaplan.blogspot.com.

*097* The Features - Go Now / Make Me Wanna

Great track on the B-side : 'Make Me Wanna'. Cool PowerPop with female vocals !
The A-side 'Go Now' is a slow number and the first time I heard it it sounded to much like "Radio Pop Music". I had to hear it some times to realize that it is in fact a nice number !

*096* Top Secret - Let Me Take Your Photograph / Posers

This is my second Top Secret post carrying their first single, the second one ('Don't Say No' b/w 'My Baby's Crazy') I have already have posted here.

'Let Me Take Your Photograph' is already uploaded here. Here you have the B-side : Posers. Definitely not quite as good as 'Don't Say No' and 'My Baby's Crazy' !

The third single 'She's so Ugly' b/w 'I Love Me' you find @ toneandwave.blogspot.com.

*095* Pumphouse Gang - Motorcity Fantasy / Cocaine

'Motorcity Fantasy' / 'Cocaine' (January 1978)

Check the band story on worthlesstrash.co.uk.

Check some great tracks of their subsequent releases (1980) @ Youtube :
'Let The Music Play',
'Stay With Me',
'Message From The USA'.

*094* Mick Farren & The Deviants - Screwed Up EP

For me the winner is here 'Let's Loop The Supermarket Again' !! What a killer !!! Best song of all the Mick Farren stuff !

'Screwed Up'
'Shock Horror'
'Outrageous / Cantageous'
'Let's Loop The Supermarket Again Like We Did It In Last Summer'

*093* The Secret - Another Cold Night In Germany

Actually yesterday was 'Another Cold Night In Germany' !! But if you put this record on your mp3 player you will not feel it !

This is the B-Side of 'Hotel Carabineros' and just as well as The Secret's first single I have already posted here.

*092* Autographs - Fabulous

A-side is one of the best rockin PowerPop songs I have ever heard !!!
Quite as good is the B-Side 'Fabulous' !!

A great live performance of the 'While I'm Still Young' you find here @ Youtube as well as a different version of this track here.

Some information you get @ mylifesajigsaw.blogspot.com.

*091* The Balls - I Love The Balls / Don't Touch Me

The Balls - 'I Love The Balls' b/w 'Don't Touch Me', released in 1981 by Towerbell Records.

Has a great New Wavish PowerPop A-Side I think !!

No much infos to found about this record.

*090* Going Red - Some Boys / Tune Kevin's Strings

Ok, A-Side is already uploaded here. It is so fantastic that I can not only post the B-Side here ! Going Red in fact is Grahm Fellows, also known as Jilted John.
I guess the live recorded B-Side is not well known. It sounds quite different from the A-Side.

Here my uploads :
A-Side : 'Some Boys'
B-Side : 'Tune Kevin's Strings'

*089* The Resistance - Kidnapped / Say No To The Macho

'Kidnapped' / 'Say No To The Macho' is the second single by The Resistance, released in 1980. The B-side is my favorite track here !

A-side 'Survival Kit' of the first single is postet here @ Youtube. I like it !

*088* The Paranoids - Anticipation / T.V. Heroes

... So let's take a look at the second The Paranoids single : 'Anticipation' / 'T.V. Heroes'. Can they fulfill our hopes or not ? What do you think? In my opinion : No ! - B-side is only good and can not keep up with the first single tracks. I don't know, maybe the A-side is a parody ? To be honest I like it in some way but the tune is rather the right stuff for my 60 years old mum and dad !!

Third and final single is posted here (definitely to much Pop I say).

*087* The Paranoids - Road To Ruin

Cool B-side 'Road To Ruin' for the more known A-side hit 'Stupid Guy'.

Funny german words on the back site, which sound dry and a little highbrow. More or less they say :
The Paranoids are a hopeful band from England.
Hopeful because their single "Stupid Guy" was Record of the Week at the "Radio 1" radio station and the Capital Climber at the "Capital" radio station.
A good accomplishment !

So in our next post we will see if the Paranoids can fulfill all our hopes ...

*086* Public Skool - Baby Come Back / Walking The Rat

What a great B-side : 'Walking The Rat' !?!

'Baby Come Back' is a cover version of an Equals song.

*085* Magic Michael - Millionaire / My Friend And I

This records comes with two quite different songs, but both are fantastic!!! The first one is a catchy overexcited rocking tune, the second one has a more midtempo PowerPop style.

Enjoy : 'Millionaire' / 'My Friend And I'

You can read some infos about the London hippie Michael Cousins (the person behind Magic Michael) here.

Another track - called 'Little By Little' - you find @ Youtube too.

*084* Stanley Frank - Rejected

'Cold Turkey' and 'Hey Stupid' are the tracks from Stanley Frank's second(?) single 'Rejected'. Not as good as the tracks from the first 7inch but ok I think. Especially 'Hey Stupid' I like after hearing it one, two, three times !

*083* Stanley Frank - On A Line

'On A Line' is the B-side of my Stanley Frank favorite hit : 'Scool Days'.

Maybe you know that there exists a split 'New Wave' EP with The Saints containing exactly the same songs.

Btw. you can hear some good rocking Stanley Frank numbers - 'Good Lovin', 'Rock Crazy' from the 'Play It Till It Hurts' album - here and there @ Youtube.
